4 Steps to Perfect Croissants
4 Steps to Perfect Croissants
Ingredients:
- 2 ½ cups of flour
- 2 tablespoons of melted butter
- 1 cup of milk
- ½ teaspoon of salt
- 2 teaspoons of yeast
- 3 tablespoons of warm water
- 2 tablespoons of sugar
Egg Wash:
- 1 egg
- 1 tablespoon of milk
Procedure:
Step 1 – Prepare the Dough:
Begin by dissolving the yeast in warm water, allowing it to sit for 5 minutes. In a large mixing bowl, combine sugar, salt, and 1 cup of flour, then stir. Add milk, melted butter, and the water/yeast mixture, stirring until well combined. Gradually add the remaining flour and stir until a sticky dough forms.
Step 2 – Shape and Rest:
Transfer the dough onto a floured surface, sprinkle with flour, and knead a few times. Roll the dough out into a long, ½-inch thick rectangle. Fold the dough, then place it onto a baking sheet. Cover with plastic wrap and let it rest in the refrigerator for 1 hour.
Step 3 – Fill and Shape:
Flour your work surface again, then roll out the dough into a large round shape. Cut it into 24 pieces. Fill each piece with desired ingredients such as meat, chocolate, cheese, or jam, or leave them empty. Cut each piece into a triangle shape and roll up from the top, pulling and rolling the tips over. Drizzle the croissants with some milk and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
Step 4 – Bake:
Line the croissants on a parchment paper-lined baking sheet. Brush them with the prepared egg wash. Bake in a preheated oven at 200°C/392°F for 18 minutes or until golden brown. Enjoy your freshly baked croissants!
