Ingredients:
- 4 cups thinly sliced potatoes
- 3 tbsp butter
- 3 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1 ½ cups milk
- 1 tsp salt
- ¼ tsp pepper
- 1 cup grated cheddar cheese
Instructions:
- Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Prepare the Sauce: In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour, creating a smooth paste. Gradually add the milk, stirring continuously until the mixture thickens. Season with salt and pepper.
- Layer the Potatoes: In a greased 9×13 inch baking dish, layer half of the sliced potatoes. Pour half of the sauce over the potatoes, then sprinkle with half of the grated cheese. Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes, sauce, and cheese.
- Bake: Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 25-30 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and the top is golden brown.
- Serve: Let the scalloped potatoes cool for a few minutes before serving.
