Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water (110°F/45°C)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • Additional minced garlic, for brushing (optional)
  • Fresh parsley, chopped, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Step 1: Activate the Yeast

  1. In a small bowl, combine warm water, granulated sugar, and active dry yeast.
  2. Stir gently and let the mixture sit for 5-10 minutes, until it becomes foamy.

Step 2: Prepare the Dough

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, salt, minced garlic, dried oregano, and dried parsley (if using). Mix thoroughly.
  2. Create a well in the center of the dry ingredients, then pour in the activated yeast mixture and olive oil.
  3. Mix until a rough dough forms, using a wooden spoon or your hands.

Step 3: Knead the Dough

  1. Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  2. Shape the dough into a ball and place it in a lightly greased bowl. Cover with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap.
  3. Let the dough rise in a warm, draft-free area for 1-2 hours, or until it doubles in size.

Step 4: Preheat the Oven

  1. Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C).
  2. Place a baking sheet or pizza stone in the oven to preheat as well.

Step 5: Divide and Shape the Dough

  1. Once the dough has doubled in size, punch it down and divide it into 6 equal portions.
  2. On a lightly floured surface, roll out each portion of dough into a circle, about 1/4 inch thick.

Bake your garlic pita bread to perfection and enjoy its savory flavor fresh out of the oven. Whether you’re pairing it with dips or using it as a wrap, this garlic-infused pita bread will surely enhance any meal.
