How to Bake Perfect Scones Easily
Ingredients:
- 3 ¼ cups plain flour
- 1 cup unsalted butter (very cold)
- 1 cup buttermilk (very cold)
- 2 tsp baking powder
- ¼ tsp bicarbonate of soda
- 1 tsp salt
- 3 tsp granulated sugar
Instructions:
- In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, sugar, baking powder, and bicarbonate of soda with a fork.
- Grate the cold butter into the dry ingredient mixture using a kitchen grater. Mix with a fork until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.
- Place the bowl in the refrigerator for about 15 minutes.
- Remove the bowl from the refrigerator and gradually add the very cold buttermilk, mixing continuously with a fork.
- Lightly flour your work surface and transfer the dough onto it. The dough will not be fully combined at this point; do not add extra buttermilk.
- Use your hands to gently mix the dough until it comes together and forms a rectangle.
- Cut the rectangle in half with a dough cutter, stack one half on top of the other, and roll it out into a 1 cm thick rectangle using a rolling pin.
- Cut the dough into your desired shapes with a biscuit cutter.
- Brush the scones with milk and bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for 20 to 25 minutes.
