Original Baguette Bread Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 500g all-purpose wheat flour
  • 330ml water
  • 5g dry baker’s yeast or 15g fresh yeast
  • 10g salt

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Yeast Mixture: Begin by mixing the water with the yeast in a bowl. Make sure the water is lukewarm, as this helps the yeast dissolve faster and activates it more effectively.
  2. Combine Ingredients and Knead: In a separate bowl, combine the flour with the salt. Gradually add this mixture to the yeast water. Knead the dough thoroughly until it becomes smooth and only slightly sticky. At first, the dough may feel sticky, but it will become easier to handle as you knead.
  3. First Rest: Cover the dough with plastic wrap and let it rest in the fridge for one hour. This step allows the dough to relax and become easier to shape.
  4. Shape the Baguettes: After resting, divide the dough into four equal portions and roll each into an elongated baguette shape. Place them on a baking tray, leaving enough space between each baguette. Make two shallow cuts along the top of each loaf. Let the baguettes rest for an additional 30 minutes to allow for a second fermentation.
  5. Preheat and Bake: Preheat your oven to 180ºC (350ºF). If the baguettes seem too thick, gently stretch them a bit longer. Before baking, lightly mist the tops of the baguettes with water; this helps achieve a bakery-style crust. If you don’t have a spray bottle, wet your fingertips and lightly brush the tops of the dough.
  6. Bake to Perfection: Place the baguettes in the preheated oven and bake for about 15 minutes or until they achieve a golden-brown crust. Once done, remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly before serving.

With this simple method, you’ll enjoy authentic, freshly baked baguettes right at home. Enjoy!
