Air Fried Chickpeas: My Go-To Weight Loss Snack

Everyone has their secret weapon for weight loss, and for me, it’s air fried chickpeas. When I decided to replace all my junk food with these nutritious snacks four years ago, I began purchasing them in 25-pound sacks from Amazon. My preparation method is simple yet effective. I start with a 12-quart pot filled halfway with chickpeas and then add water until the pot is full.

To cook, I use an air fryer set to 400°F. I begin by frying the chickpeas for 20 minutes, stirring them halfway through, and then continue for another 12 minutes, stirring again. As they near completion, the cooking time decreases until they reach the desired level of crispiness. I spray the chickpeas with Pam to ensure the seasoning adheres well.

For storage, I keep the roasted chickpeas in pint containers and add seasoning as needed to keep them from becoming stale. If they do lose their crispiness, a few minutes back in the air fryer restores them perfectly, although we consume them quickly enough that this rarely happens.

As a diabetic, I have to monitor my intake of foods like popcorn, but these air fried chickpeas are always a zero-point snack for me. They are so convenient that we even pack them in travel bags for snacks on the go. Over the past four years, incorporating these chickpeas into my diet has helped me lose 150 pounds through Weight Watchers, and I am successfully maintaining my weight.

Whenever I crave chips or other former favorites, I either scan them for points or check their chemical ingredients, which usually eliminates the desire. Air fried chickpeas have been a game-changer in my weight loss journey, offering a healthy, satisfying alternative to traditional snacks.
