A delightful dessert featuring a sweet, spiced apple filling encased in flaky, buttery puff pastry. This easy-to-make Apple Pie with Puff Pastry offers a modern twist on a classic, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package store-bought puff pastry, thawed
  • 4 cups apples, peeled, cored, and sliced (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp recommended)
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, diced
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. On a lightly floured surface, roll out one sheet of thawed puff pastry. Cut it to fit your pie dish.
  3. In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, flour, and a pinch of salt. Toss until the apples are well coated.
  4. Place the apple mixture into the puff pastry-lined pie dish. Dot the filling with the diced butter.
  5. Roll out the second sheet of puff pastry and place it over the apple filling. Seal the edges by crimping with a fork or your fingers.
  6. Cut a few slits in the top crust of your apple pie puff pastry to allow steam to escape.
  7. Brush the beaten egg over the pastry for a golden finish.
  8. Bake the Apple Pie with Puff Pastry for 35-40 minutes, or until the pastry is puffed and golden brown.
  9. Remove the pie from the oven and let it cool for 10-15 minutes before slicing and serving your Apple Pie Puff Pastry.

Notes

  • For best results, use fresh, firm apples. Granny Smith and Honeycrisp apples offer a great balance of tartness and sweetness.
  • Allowing the pie to rest after baking helps the filling set, making it easier to slice.
  • Experiment with other spices like cloves or allspice, or add a dash of vanilla extract to the filling for a different flavor profile.
  • Brushing the crust with an egg wash before baking provides a beautiful golden hue to your puff pastry apple pie.
  • Serving the Apple Pie Puff Pastry warm enhances the flavors and is perfect with ice cream.
