  • 1 cup breadcrumbs

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cook the elbow macaroni according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
  4. Add the flour and whisk constantly for 1-2 minutes to create a roux.
  5. Gradually whisk in the milk, ensuring no lumps form.
  6. Continue to whisk until the sauce thickens, about 5-7 minutes.
  7. Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the cheddar, mozzarella, and Parmesan cheese until completely melted and smooth.
  8. Add garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper to taste.
  9. Add the cooked macaroni to the cheese sauce, stirring well to combine.
  10. Pour the macaroni and cheese mixture into a greased baking dish.
  11. In a small bowl, mix the breadcrumbs with a little melted butter and sprinkle over the macaroni mixture.
  12. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until bubbly and golden on top.
  13. Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Use quality cheese for a richer flavor.
  • Don’t overcook the pasta; it will continue to cook while baking.
  • Add a pinch of cayenne pepper or red pepper flakes for a subtle kick.
  • Experiment with different cheeses like Gouda, Fontina, or Gruyère.
  • Let the dish rest for 5-10 minutes after baking for easier serving.
  • For a Bacon Lover’s Delight, add cooked and crumbled bacon.
  • For a Veggie-Packed Version, incorporate steamed broccoli, spinach, or peas.
  • For Spicy Mac and Cheese, add diced jalapeños or hot sauce.
  • For Truffle Mac and Cheese, drizzle truffle oil before serving.
  • Store in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-5 days.
  • Freeze unbaked, covered tightly, for up to 3 months. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator before baking.
