A comforting and wholesome take on a Southern classic, featuring fluffy whole wheat biscuits topped with a rich maple turkey sausage gravy. This dish balances sweet and savory flavors for a satisfying meal perfect for brunch or a weeknight dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups Whole Wheat Flour (for biscuits)
  • 1 tbsp Baking Powder
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 3/4 cups Almond Milk (for biscuits)
  • 1 lb Turkey Sausage
  • 1/4 cups Maple Syrup
  • 1 tsp Pepper
  • 1/4 cups Whole Wheat Flour (for gravy)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Biscuit Dough: Combine whole wheat flour, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl. Gradually add almond milk, mixing until a soft dough forms. Let rest.
  2. Shape and Bake the Biscuits: On a floured surface, pat dough to 1-inch thickness. Cut out biscuits and place on a lined baking sheet. Bake at 425°F (220°C) for 10-12 minutes until golden brown.
  3. Brown the Turkey Sausage: While biscuits bake, cook turkey sausage in a skillet over medium heat until browned and crumbly. Remove sausage, leaving drippings in the skillet.
  4. Make the Maple Gravy: In the same skillet, add whole wheat flour to the drippings and stir for 1 minute to form a roux. Gradually whisk in almond milk and maple syrup until smooth and thick. Season with pepper.
  5. Serve with Biscuits: Split baked biscuits and ladle the warm maple sausage gravy over them. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • Avoid overmixing biscuit dough for tender results.
  • Adjust salt and pepper to your taste preference.
  • For a thicker gravy, simmer longer; for thinner, add more almond milk.
