Brown Sugar Ham Glaze is a delightful addition that transforms an ordinary ham into a centerpiece worthy of any feast. This glaze captures the essence of sweet and savory, creating a flavor profile that dances on your palate.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 fully cooked ham (about 810 pounds)
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup pineapple juice (optional, for basting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 325°F (162°C).
  2. Place the fully cooked ham on a rack in a roasting pan. Score the surface in a diamond pattern with shallow cuts.
  3. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine brown sugar, honey, apple cider vinegar, ground cinnamon, ground cloves, ground ginger, and black pepper. Stir until well blended and bubbling.
  4. Brush the glaze over the scored surface of the ham generously.
  5. Cover the ham loosely with aluminum foil, and place it in the preheated oven. Bake for about 1 hour.
  6. Every 20 minutes, remove the foil and baste the ham with the drippings from the pan.
  7. In the last 30 minutes of baking, brush on a second generous layer of the glaze.
  8. Use a meat thermometer to ensure the ham reaches an internal temperature of at least 140°F (60°C).
  9. Once done, remove the ham from the oven and let it rest for about 15 minutes before carving.
  10. Slice the ham to your desired thickness and serve, drizzled with any remaining glaze from the pan.

Notes

  • Use high-quality brown sugar for a deeper flavor.
  • Experiment with spices to adjust flavor.
  • Consider adding a splash of orange or lemon juice.
  • Add liquid smoke for a smoky touch.
  • Always rest the ham after cooking.
