Caramelized Popcorn Delight

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of popcorn kernels (serves 2-3)
  • Olive, sunflower, or corn oil
  • 1 cup of sugar

Preparation:

  1. Begin by drizzling just enough oil to coat the bottom of a pan, ensuring it’s not excessive. Heat the pan over medium heat until it’s very hot. Once hot, add the popcorn kernels, making sure not to overcrowd the pan to allow room for popping and caramelization later. Depending on the size of your pan, you may need to prepare the sweet popcorn in two or three batches.
  2. Once the kernels are in the pan, cover them until they start popping. Exercise caution and wait until most of them have popped before lifting the lid. At this stage, add an equivalent portion of sugar to the amount of kernels and start stirring to ensure the sugar coats all the popcorn. Employ gentle, enveloping motions while the heat caramelizes the sugar. Once the popcorn is caramelized, remove the pan from the heat and transfer the contents to a container.
  3. Repeat the process as needed until you’ve utilized all the popcorn kernels. Remember to maintain medium heat throughout the process and never crank it up to high. Stir immediately after adding the sugar to facilitate even caramelization. Enjoy your delicious caramelized popcorn!
