- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup whole milk
- 2 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
- 1 cup dried cranberries or chopped apples (optional)
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking dish or line it with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg until well combined.
- In another bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy. Add in the eggs and vanilla extract, mixing well.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with the milk. Stir until just combined.
- If desired, fold in the chopped nuts and dried cranberries or apples at this stage.
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish, spreading it evenly.
