The Creamiest, Dreamiest Mashed Potatoes: An Incredible 5-Step Recipe

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds russet or Yukon gold potatoes
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • Salt, to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • Optional: 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese or garlic for added flavor

Instructions

  1. Peel the potatoes and cut them into evenly sized chunks.
  2. Place the potato chunks in a large pot and cover them with cold water. Bring to a boil over high heat and then reduce to a simmer. Cook for about 15-20 minutes or until tender.
  3. Once cooked, drain the potatoes thoroughly. Return them to the pot and let them steam for a few minutes.
  4. Use a potato masher or ricer to mash the potatoes until smooth.
  5. Stir in the softened butter, heavy cream, and sour cream. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Mix until creamy and well-combined. Add shredded cheese or garlic if desired.

Notes

  • Ensure potatoes are cut evenly for uniform cooking.
  • Do not over-mix to maintain fluffiness.
  • Adjust seasoning to your preference.
