Homemade Dill Pickles Recipe
Discover the perfect recipe for homemade dill pickles! The amount of brine you’ll need depends on the quantity of cucumbers and how tightly you pack your jars. Follow these steps to create delicious pickles:
Ingredients
- Cucumbers
- Fresh dill
- Mustard seeds
- Garlic cloves
Instructions
- Prepare the Ingredients: Place cucumbers, fresh dill, mustard seeds, and garlic cloves into a mason jar. For this recipe, I used a 1-gallon jar.
- Make the Brine: In a pot, bring 6 cups of water, 3 cups of distilled white vinegar, and 3-4 tablespoons of salt to a simmer.
- Cool and Add the Brine: Let the brine cool for about 20 minutes. Pour it into the jar, ensuring you leave about 1/4 inch of space at the top. Loosely seal the jar.
- Process the Pickles: Boil the sealed jar for 15 minutes. After boiling, remove it from the heat and tighten the seal with a towel. Let the jar cool on the counter for 24 hours. The lids should concave slightly as they cool; if not, place the jar in the fridge.
These pickles can be stored in the pantry and will be ready to enjoy in 4-6 weeks.
