Frankenstein’s Lab Shots are a visually striking, layered Halloween cocktail. They feature a neon green base, a moody purple middle, and a dark, inky top, mimicking a mad scientist’s concoction. The flavor profile balances pineapple sweetness with citrus notes and a hint of vodka.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup pineapple juice
  • 1/2 cup vodka
  • 3/4 cup blue curaçao
  • 3 tablespoons grenadine
  • Black sugar (for rim)
  • Green cherries (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Rim the shot glasses: Dip each glass rim in pineapple juice, then roll in black sugar. Set aside.
  2. Chill the rimmed glasses for at least 10 minutes.
  3. Prepare the green base: In a spouted cup, mix pineapple juice with about half of the blue curaçao until neon green. Stir in the vodka. Fill each glass about 2/3 full with this mixture.
  4. Chill the tray of glasses while you prepare the next layer.
  5. Prepare the purple layer: In a small cup, combine grenadine with a few drops of blue curaçao to achieve a dark magenta/purple tone.
  6. Pour the purple layer slowly over the back of a bar spoon held just above the green layer in each glass.
  7. Prepare the dark cap: Top each glass with a small splash of straight blue curaçao for a deep, inky finish.
  8. Garnish each shot with a green cherry.
  9. Serve well chilled.

Notes

  • For cleaner layers, ensure all liquids are well-chilled and pour slowly, using a bar spoon to guide the liquid.
  • The density of the liquids is key to layering; grenadine is denser than blue curaçao and pineapple juice.
  • Adjust the amount of blue curaçao and grenadine to achieve desired colors and sweetness.
  • For a darker top layer, a micro-drop of black gel food coloring can be added to the blue curaçao.
  • Zero-proof versions can be made using blue sports drinks or syrups and pomegranate juice.
