Ingredients:
- 2 pounds of thinly sliced potatoes
- 1/4 cup of butter
- 1 1/2 teaspoons of minced garlic
- 3 tablespoons of all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 1/4 teaspoon of pepper
- 1 1/2 cups of milk
- 2 cups of shredded cheddar cheese (divided)
Instructions:
Preheat your oven to 350°F. Grease an 8×8 or 7×10 pan with butter, then layer half of the sliced potatoes on the bottom of the pan.
In a small saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Add minced garlic and cook for 1-2 minutes. Whisk in flour, salt, and pepper, and cook for another minute.
Reduce heat to medium-low. Slowly pour in the milk while whisking continuously until smooth. Allow the mixture to lightly simmer until thickened. Stir in 3/4 cup of shredded cheese until melted, then remove from heat.
Pour half of the cheese sauce over the potatoes in the pan. Sprinkle about 1/2 cup of shredded cheese on top. Arrange the remaining potato slices over the cheese layer, then pour the remaining sauce and cheese over the top.
Bake uncovered for 50-60 minutes, or until the potatoes are fork-tender and the top is beautifully golden brown.
