Scale
4 large Honeycrisp or Fuji apples
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
Pinch of ground cloves
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
1/4 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)
2 tablespoons caramel sauce (optional)
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
Wash and dry the apples.
Use a sharp knife or an apple corer to remove the core from each apple, leaving the bottom intact to create a well.
In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, and cloves. This is your heavenly spice mix.
Stuff the spice mixture into the core cavity of each apple.
Place a piece of butter into the cavity of each apple.
If using, add the chopped nuts on top of the butter.
Place the apples in a baking dish.
Add about 1/4 inch of water to the bottom of the baking dish.
Bake for 30-45 minutes, or until the apples are tender when pierced with a fork. Baking time will vary depending on the size and type of apple.
Carefully remove the apples from the oven.
If desired, drizzle with caramel sauce before serving.
