Ingredients

  • 4 large Honeycrisp or Fuji apples
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
  • Pinch of ground cloves
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
  • 1/4 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons caramel sauce (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Wash and dry the apples.
  3. Use a sharp knife or an apple corer to remove the core from each apple, leaving the bottom intact to create a well.
  4. In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, and cloves. This is your heavenly spice mix.
  5. Stuff the spice mixture into the core cavity of each apple.
  6. Place a piece of butter into the cavity of each apple.
  7. If using, add the chopped nuts on top of the butter.
  8. Place the apples in a baking dish.
  9. Add about 1/4 inch of water to the bottom of the baking dish.
  10. Bake for 30-45 minutes, or until the apples are tender when pierced with a fork. Baking time will vary depending on the size and type of apple.
  11. Carefully remove the apples from the oven.
  12. If desired, drizzle with caramel sauce before serving.
