Hollandaise Sauce Recipe
Ingredients:
- 3 large egg yolks
- 1 tablespoon water
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional: pinch of cayenne pepper or a dash of hot sauce for added flavor
Instructions:
- In a heatproof bowl, whisk together the egg yolks, water, and lemon juice until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
- Set the bowl over a pot of barely simmering water, ensuring the bottom of the bowl does not touch the water. The water should be hot but not boiling.
- Whisk the egg yolk mixture continuously and vigorously while slowly pouring in the melted butter in a thin, steady stream. Continue whisking until the sauce thickens and emulsifies, which should take approximately 5-7 minutes.
- Once the sauce reaches your desired consistency, remove the bowl from the heat. Season with salt and pepper to taste, and if you prefer, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or a dash of hot sauce for an extra kick.
- Serve the Hollandaise sauce immediately over dishes like eggs Benedict, steamed vegetables, or grilled fish. If you’re not serving it right away, keep it warm by placing the bowl in a larger bowl of warm water.
Enjoy your exquisite homemade Hollandaise sauce!
