Hollandaise Sauce Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 3 large egg yolks
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: pinch of cayenne pepper or a dash of hot sauce for added flavor

Instructions:

  1. In a heatproof bowl, whisk together the egg yolks, water, and lemon juice until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
  2. Set the bowl over a pot of barely simmering water, ensuring the bottom of the bowl does not touch the water. The water should be hot but not boiling.
  3. Whisk the egg yolk mixture continuously and vigorously while slowly pouring in the melted butter in a thin, steady stream. Continue whisking until the sauce thickens and emulsifies, which should take approximately 5-7 minutes.
  4. Once the sauce reaches your desired consistency, remove the bowl from the heat. Season with salt and pepper to taste, and if you prefer, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or a dash of hot sauce for an extra kick.
  5. Serve the Hollandaise sauce immediately over dishes like eggs Benedict, steamed vegetables, or grilled fish. If you’re not serving it right away, keep it warm by placing the bowl in a larger bowl of warm water.

Enjoy your exquisite homemade Hollandaise sauce!
