Homemade Fudge Recipe
Ingredients:
- 4 cups granulated sugar
- 1 cup water
- 250g margarine
- 1 can condensed milk
Instructions:
- In a large saucepan, melt the margarine, sugar, and water over low heat.
- Once the margarine has fully melted, allow the mixture to come to a boil for 6 minutes without stirring.
- After boiling, add the condensed milk and stir continuously over low heat until the mixture reaches a caramel color.
- Pour the fudge into a buttered baking sheet.
- While it’s still warm, cut it into squares.
The fudge will take about 20–25 minutes to boil. To check if it’s ready, drop a small amount into cold water – it should set if done.
Tips for Perfect Fudge:
- Toffee Texture: If you prefer a toffee-like fudge, return it to the pot with ½ cup water. Let it boil for around 20 minutes, stirring constantly.
- Fixing Crumbly or Overcooked Fudge: Return it to the pot with 1 cup of water. Once melted and boiling, cook for 20 minutes, stirring throughout.
- Vanilla Flavor: For added flavor, mix in 5 ml of vanilla essence right before pouring the fudge into your pan.
- Cutting Tips: To achieve even squares, use a flat plank the width of a ruler as a guide over the pan. For larger pieces, use a wider guide.
