Ingredients
- 1 pound bulk sausage
- 1 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese
- 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup finely chopped onion
- 1/2 cup finely chopped green bell pepper (optional)
- 4 large eggs
- 2/3 cup milk
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- Green onions or chives for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Begin by preheating your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Cook the Sausage: In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the bulk sausage until fully cooked. Drain any excess fat.
- Sauté the Vegetables: Add the finely chopped onion and optional bell pepper to the skillet. Sauté until softened, approximately 3-5 minutes.
- Mix the Cheese: In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked sausage and sautéed vegetables with the Monterey Jack and sharp cheddar cheese. Set aside.
- Prepare the Custard: In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, flour, baking powder, black pepper, and salt until the mixture is smooth.
- Combine the Mixtures: Pour the egg mixture over the sausage and cheese mixture, stirring until well incorporated.
- Pour into Baking Dish: Grease a 9-inch pie dish or baking pan and pour the combined mixture evenly into it.
- Bake: Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the pie is set and the top is golden brown.
- Garnish and Serve: Allow the pie to cool slightly before slicing. Optionally, garnish with chopped green onions or chives. Serve warm.
