Ingredients

Scale
  • 9 uncooked lasagna noodles, broken into thirds
  • 1 pound Italian sausage or ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 cups marinara sauce
  • 2 cups water or broth
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 ½ cups ricotta cheese
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh basil for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add Italian sausage or ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart.
  2. Stir in diced onion and minced garlic. Cook until onion is translucent, about 2-3 minutes.
  3. Add the broken lasagna noodles to the skillet.
  4. Pour in marinara sauce and water or broth. Stir to combine.
  5. Sprinkle Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper over the mixture. Stir again.
  6. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low. Cover and simmer for about 15 minutes, or until pasta is al dente, stirring occasionally.
  7. Spoon dollops of ricotta cheese over the top. Gently fold into the pasta mixture.
  8. Sprinkle shredded mozzarella and grated Parmesan cheese evenly over the top. Cover for another 2-3 minutes until cheeses are melted and bubbly.
  9. Remove from heat. Let it cool slightly before serving.
  10. Garnish with fresh basil leaves before serving, if desired.

  • For a vegetarian option, swap meat with sautéed mushrooms and zucchini.
  • For a spicier version, add crushed red pepper flakes or diced jalapeños.
  • For a creamier texture, stir in heavy cream into the marinara sauce.
