This Philly Cheesesteak Pizza recipe offers a delightful fusion of classic sandwich flavors on a crispy pizza crust. It’s an easy, comforting meal perfect for weeknights or gatherings, featuring tender steak, gooey provolone, and caramelized onions, all brought together with a creamy garlic white sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 batch Pizza Dough (homemade or store-bought)
  • 12 oz Thinly Sliced Steak (ribeye or sirloin preferred)
  • 8 oz Provolone Cheese (or mozzarella blend)
  • 1 cup Caramelized Onions (Vidalia or yellow onions)
  • 1 cup Green Peppers (optional, substitute with mushrooms or jalapeños)
  • 2 tbsp Butter (for sauce)
  • 2 tbsp Flour (for roux)
  • 1 cup Milk (for sauce)
  • 1/4 cup Grated Parmesan Cheese (for sauce)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). Roll out your pizza dough on a floured surface to your desired thickness.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, add a drizzle of olive oil. Cook thinly sliced onions until caramelized, about 10–15 minutes. If using green peppers, add them halfway through.
  3. Increase the heat to high in the same skillet and sear the thinly sliced steak, seasoned with salt and pepper, for about 3–5 minutes until browned.
  4. In a saucepan, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over low heat. Whisk in 2 tablespoons of flour to create a roux, stirring for 2 minutes. Gradually add 1 cup of milk, whisking until thickened. Stir in 1/4 cup of grated Parmesan cheese until smooth.
  5. Spread the garlic white sauce evenly over the pizza dough. Layer with the sautéed vegetables, steak, and provolone cheese.
  6. Bake the assembled pizza in the preheated oven for 12–15 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly.
  7. Remove from oven, let cool for a couple of minutes, slice, and serve hot. Garnish with fresh herbs if desired.

Notes

  • For best results, pre-cook the steak lightly before adding to the pizza.
  • Ensure your oven is fully preheated for a crispy crust.
  • Experiment with different cheese blends for a unique flavor.
  • Take your time caramelizing the onions to bring out their sweetness.
  • Avoid a soggy crust by not making the sauce too wet and baking on a pizza stone or directly on the oven rack.
  • Fresh herbs like basil or oregano can be added before serving for enhanced freshness and aroma.
