Enjoy tasty Pretzel Dogs, combining savory sausage franks and soft pizza dough for a delightful snack everyone loves. This easy recipe is perfect for family gatherings, game days, or a quick lunch.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tube Pizza Dough (13.8 oz)
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 5 cups Water
  • ¼ cup Baking Soda
  • Sausage Franks or Hot Dogs
  • 1 teaspoon Kosher Salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Roll out the pizza dough on a lightly floured surface into a rectangle about ¼ inch thick. Cut the dough into 15 strips, each roughly 1 inch wide.
  3. Wrap a dough strip around each sausage frank, pressing the edges to seal.
  4. Bring 5 cups of water to a light boil in a saucepan. Add ¼ cup of baking soda and stir until dissolved.
  5. Carefully drop each wrapped Pretzel Dog into the boiling water for 20–30 seconds.
  6. Remove the Pretzel Dogs with a slotted spoon and transfer them to the prepared baking sheet.
  7. Beat one egg and brush it over each pretzel-wrapped sausage.
  8. Sprinkle kosher salt generously over each Pretzel Dog before baking.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 20–21 minutes until puffed and golden brown.
  10. Alternatively, air fry at 375°F (190°C) for 4–6 minutes until golden and crispy.

Notes

  • Ensure each sausage is tightly wrapped in dough to prevent unraveling during the boiling process.
  • Avoid overcrowding the pot when boiling; this allows each Pretzel Dog to cook evenly.
  • Keep an eye on your Pretzel Dogs as they bake; adjust the time as needed for a perfect golden finish.
  • Use room temperature egg for the wash to achieve a glossy sheen.
  • Sprinkle kosher salt to your preference for the best flavor balance.
