- 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup vegetable oil
- 1 cup buttermilk, room temperature
- 2 large eggs, room temperature
- 2 tablespoons red food coloring
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon white vinegar
- 1 cup cream cheese frosting (store-bought or homemade)
- Optional: Red velvet cupcake liners
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a cupcake tin with cupcake liners.
- In a medium bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the vegetable oil, buttermilk, eggs, red food coloring, vanilla extract, and white vinegar until well combined.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, stirring gently until the batter is smooth and fully mixed. Be careful not to overmix.
- Divide the batter evenly among the cupcake liners, filling each about two-thirds full.
- Place in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Remove from the oven and let the cupcakes cool in the tin for about 5 minutes. Then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Once the cupcakes are completely cool, frost them with cream cheese frosting using a piping bag or a spatula.
- If desired, add sprinkles or other toppings for an extra touch of flair.
Notes
- Store cupcakes in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
- For best results, use room temperature ingredients.
