Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 cups fresh apple cider
  • 2 cups orange juice
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 8 whole cloves
  • 4 whole star anise
  • 1/2 teaspoon whole allspice berries (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
  • 1 vanilla bean, split (or 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract)
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup or honey (optional, to taste)
  • 1 orange, sliced
  • 1 apple, sliced

Instructions

  1. Pour apple cider, orange juice, and water into a large pot.
  2. Add cinnamon sticks, cloves, star anise, allspice berries if using, freshly grated nutmeg, and split vanilla bean.
  3. Stir in orange slices and apple slices to the mixture.
  4. Bring contents to a gentle simmer over medium heat, avoiding a boil.
  5. Reduce heat to low and allow to simmer uncovered for 15 to 20 minutes for optimal flavor development.
  6. Taste and incorporate maple syrup or honey if additional sweetness is desired.
  7. Remove pot from heat.
  8. Strain punch to remove spices and fruit slices if preferred, or serve directly for a rustic effect.
  9. Pour into mugs and garnish with a fresh apple or orange slice if desired.
  10. Serve warm.

Notes

  • Adjust the sweetness according to your preference.
  • For a spicier punch, increase the amount of cinnamon sticks or cloves.
  • This punch can be made ahead of time and reheated before serving.
