The Ultimate Crab Cakes Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound of crab meat (canned, fresh, or thawed if frozen)
  • 1 large carrot, grated
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1 cup of mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon of ground mustard
  • 2 tablespoons of Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 cups of seasoned breadcrumbs (set aside 1/4 cup for coating)
  • 1 teaspoon of cayenne pepper
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon of garlic powder
  • 1 1/2 cups of egg beaters
  • 1/4 cup of vegetable or canola oil (more if needed)

Instructions:

  1. In a medium bowl, combine the crab meat, grated carrot, diced onion, mayonnaise, ground mustard, and Worcestershire sauce. Season with cayenne pepper, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  2. Add the seasoned breadcrumbs and egg beaters to the mixture, and thoroughly combine until evenly distributed.
  3. Take small handfuls of the crab mixture and shape them into hockey puck-sized cakes.
  4. Coat the formed crab cakes in the reserved seasoned breadcrumbs and place them on a baking sheet.
  5. Cover the crab cakes and freeze them for at least one hour.
  6. In a large skillet, heat the vegetable or canola oil over medium-high heat. Carefully add the crab cakes in batches, frying them until golden brown on both sides.
  7. Transfer the fried crab cakes to a baking sheet and bake in a preheated 350°F oven for 15 minutes.
  8. Allow the crab cakes to cool slightly before serving. Serve with fresh lemon juice and tartar sauce if desired. Enjoy your delicious homemade crab cakes!
