  • 1 cup Sliced Sweet Potatoes
  • 1 cup Diced Apples
  • 1 teaspoon Onion Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste
  • 1 teaspoon Rubbed Sage
  • 1 teaspoon Cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon Nutmeg
  • 1 pound Ground Turkey
  • 2 tablespoons Tomato Paste
  • 2 tablespoons Chili Powder
  • 1 can Crushed Tomatoes
  • 1 can Strained Tomatoes
  • 1 can Kidney Beans
  • 1 can Black Beans

Instructions

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large pot over medium heat until shimmering, about 1-2 minutes.
  2. Add the diced apples, sliced carrots, sliced sweet potatoes, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, pepper, rubbed sage, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Sauté for about 5 minutes until tender and aromatic.
  3. Add the ground turkey, breaking it apart with a spoon, and cook for about 5 minutes until browned.
  4. Stir in the tomato paste and chili powder, mixing thoroughly, and allow to bloom for about 2 minutes.
  5. Pour in the crushed tomatoes and strained tomatoes, stirring well, and bring to a gentle simmer.
  6. Simmer for about 20-30 minutes, allowing flavors to meld.
  7. If desired, stir in the kidney beans and black beans and allow everything to warm through for an additional 5 minutes.

Notes

  • For best results, use tart apples like Granny Smith.
  • Adjust chili powder for desired spice level.
  • Add fresh herbs like cilantro or parsley just before serving for added freshness.
  • To maintain apple crunch, add them in the last 5-10 minutes of cooking.
  • If the chili is too thick, add a splash of broth or water.
