Vetkoek (Magwinya) Recipe
Ingredients:
- 4 cups cake flour
- 4 tablespoons sugar
- A pinch of salt
- 4 tablespoons powdered milk (optional)
- 10g packet of yeast
- 2 cups warm water
- 1 tablespoon oil
Instructions:
- Combine Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the cake flour, sugar, salt, powdered milk (if using), and yeast.
- Add Water and Knead: Gradually add the warm water to the dry mixture, kneading continuously until the dough is soft and elastic.
- Let the Dough Rise: Transfer the dough to a bowl, cover it with a plastic bag or cloth, and leave it in a warm place for about an hour to rise.
- Prepare for Frying: Heat cooking oil in a deep pot until it’s hot enough for frying.
- Fry the Dough: Shape the dough into balls and carefully place them in the hot oil. Fry until one side is golden brown, then turn them over to cook the other side.
- Serve and Enjoy: Once both sides are golden brown, remove the vetkoek from the oil, drain any excess oil, and serve.
