Turkish Manti Recipe

Ingredients

For the Dough:

  • 1 egg
  • 1 teacup of oil
  • 1 teaspoon of yogurt
  • 1 teaspoon of water
  • 1/2 tablespoon of salt
  • 1 packet of baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon of vinegar
  • 4.5-5 cups of flour

For the Filling:

  • 3 dry onions
  • 3 tablespoons of oil
  • 500 g medium-fat ground beef
  • Salt
  • Black pepper
  • Oregano
  • Ground red pepper

For the Topping:

  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 tablespoon of milk

Instructions

For the Dough:

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine 1 egg, a teacup of oil, yogurt, water, salt, baking powder, and vinegar. Mix thoroughly.
  2. Gradually add 4.5-5 cups of flour to the mixture, kneading until a smooth, elastic dough forms. Cover with a clean cloth and let it rest for 30 minutes.

For the Filling:

  1. Finely chop the dry onions.
  2. Heat 3 tablespoons of oil in a pan and sauté the chopped onions until translucent.
  3. Add the ground beef and cook until browned and fully cooked.
  4. Season with salt, black pepper, oregano, and ground red pepper to taste. Remove from heat and allow to cool.

Assembly:

  1. Roll out the rested dough on a floured surface until very thin, almost paper-thin.
  2. Cut the dough into small squares, approximately 4×4 cm in size.
  3. Place a small amount of the prepared beef filling in the center of each dough square.
  4. Fold the dough over the filling to create a triangle or rectangle shape, pressing the edges tightly to seal.
  5. In a large pot of salted boiling water, cook the Manti until they float to the surface, usually for about 5-7 minutes. Remove with a slotted spoon and place in a serving dish.

For the Topping:

  1. Whisk together 1 egg yolk and 1 tablespoon of milk in a small bowl.

To Serve:

  • Drizzle the egg yolk and milk mixture over the cooked Manti.
  • Optionally, top with melted butter or garlic yogurt sauce.
