Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground chicken
  • 1/2 onion, finely chopped or grated
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (for grilling)
  • 1 cup plain yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 clove garlic, minced (for sauce)
  • Pinch of salt (for sauce)

Instructions

  1. Combine ground chicken, chopped onion, minced garlic, parsley, cumin, coriander, salt, and pepper in a large bowl. Mix well with your hands until fully combined.
  2. With damp hands, shape the mixture into oval-shaped patties (koftas).
  3. Heat a grill or grill pan over medium-high heat. Brush with olive oil.
  4. Cook the koftas for 5–7 minutes per side, or until fully cooked and golden brown.
  5. While koftas cook, prepare the garlic yogurt sauce by mixing plain yogurt, lemon juice, minced garlic, and a pinch of salt until smooth.
  6. Serve the grilled chicken koftas warm, drizzled with the garlic yogurt sauce or with the sauce on the side for dipping.

Notes

  • For a spicier kick, add red pepper flakes to the kofta mixture.
  • Substitute parsley with cilantro or mint for a different herb flavor.
  • Add crumbled feta cheese for extra richness.
  • For a vegetarian option, use mashed chickpeas and grated vegetables instead of chicken.
  • Add pine nuts or chopped almonds for added texture.
  • Store leftover koftas in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
  • Reheat koftas in a skillet or microwave.
  • Store garlic yogurt sauce separately and stir before serving.
