Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • Food coloring (pastel shades of your choice)
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened (for frosting)
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for frosting)
  • Food coloring (for floral decorations)
  • Edible flowers (like pansies or violets)
  • Fresh berries (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour three 8-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then, stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk. Mix until just combined.
  6. Separate the batter into different bowls based on how many colors you want to use. Add food coloring to each bowl and mix until the desired pastel shade is achieved.
  7. Pour the colored batter into the prepared cake pans, ensuring even distribution.
  8. Place in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Let the cakes cool in their pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to wire racks to cool completely.
  10. In a mixing bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar, heavy cream, and vanilla extract. Beat until smooth and fluffy.
  11. Once cooled, place one layer of cake on a serving platter. Spread a layer of frosting on top, then add the second layer. Repeat with the third layer.
  12. Frost the top and sides of the cake with the remaining frosting. Smooth out with a spatula.
  13. Use edible flowers and fresh berries to decorate the top of the cake. Get creative with your floral designs!
