2 cups all-purpose flour
1 ½ cups granulated sugar
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
½ teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon unsweetened cocoa powder
1 ½ cups vegetable oil
1 cup buttermilk, room temperature
2 large eggs, room temperature
2 tablespoons red food coloring
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
½ teaspoon almond extract
1 cup cream cheese frosting (store-bought or homemade)
Sprinkles for decoration (optional)
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a baking sheet.
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking soda, baking powder, salt, and cocoa powder until well combined.
In another bowl, mix the vegetable oil, buttermilk, eggs, red food coloring, vanilla extract, and almond extract until smooth.
Gradually pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined. Avoid over-mixing.
Pour the batter onto the prepared baking sheet, spreading it evenly. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Once baked, remove the cake from the oven and let it cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Then, transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.
Once the cake is completely cool, cut it into bite-sized squares or use a cookie cutter for fun shapes.
Using a piping bag or a knife, top each square with cream cheese frosting.
If desired, sprinkle the tops with colorful sprinkles for added flair.
