- 1 pound ground beef (or turkey)
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1/2 cup beef broth (or vegetable broth)
- 1 pound spaghetti
- Grated Parmesan cheese (for serving)
- Fresh basil leaves (for garnish, optional)
- In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef. Cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.
- Stir in the diced onion and minced garlic. Sauté for 3-4 minutes until the onion is translucent and fragrant.
- Add the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, and beef broth to the skillet. Stir to combine.
- Sprinkle in the dried oregano, basil, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes. Stir everything together and let it simmer.
- Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for at least 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- While the sauce simmers, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the spaghetti and cook according to package instructions until al dente.
- Once the spaghetti is cooked, drain it and add it to the sauce. Toss to coat the spaghetti evenly with the meat sauce.
- Serve the spaghetti hot, garnished with grated Parmesan cheese and fresh basil leaves if desired.
Notes
- Allow the sauce to simmer longer for deeper flavor.
- Use fresh herbs for a brighter taste.
